New Balance‘s 2002R has returned from outright obscurity to become one of the most buzzy models of 2020, thanks to clean in-line releases and collaborations with the likes of Salehe Bembury, thisisneverthat, FDMTL and more — an esteemed group of collaborators that’s now set to be joined by Randomevent and UNIK. For their go-around with the revitalized runner, the two China-based entities have opted to create a duo of styles that go up when the lights go down, thanks to glow-in-the-dark detailing. Each style opts for a different set of materials: one offers a leather build — the first such style we’ve seen on a collaborative 2002R — with a slight neon green tint, while the other puts forth a more standard mesh-and-suede construction in black that’s accented by touches of soft neon green. The first offers a fully reflective upper, while the second only lights up its accents for a slightly more pared-back look. Each is rounded off by co-branded tongues and insoles plus a silver ABZORB cushioning system on the heel.
